3R Sustainability Manager (Pittsburgh, PA)

3R Sustainability, a CSR (corporate responsibility and high-performance building) consulting company located in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, is looking for a Sustainability Manager to join its practice.

3R believes that sustainability/corporate responsibility is good for business, good for the environment, good for society, and good for the economy. The built environment is a good example of this: by designing and operating high-performance work places, companies can improve the health and productivity of their employees, while also reducing energy and water use, and reducing waste. 3R’s parent company, SRI Quality System Registrar, is an accredited registrar that certifies sustainability management systems and green buildings, and issues quality, environmental, and health & safety certificates based on internationally-recognized standards. SRI was voted a Best Place to Work in Pennsylvania and is a certified B Corporation.

As a Sustainability Manager, you will provide expertise and serve as the primary technical subject matter expert for the evaluation of projects pursuing LEED or other high-performance building certification. This includes reviews of documentation, such as templates, calculations, drawings and specifications, provided as part of national and international LEED certification applications. You will gain firsthand experience with green building strategies and some of the top project designs in the industry, both through documentation review as well as advising project teams on ways to incorporate sustainability into their buildings.

You will also have the opportunity to work with companies to develop their sustainability/CSR strategy and plan, from engaging stakeholders and identifying material environmental, social and governance impacts, to defining/evaluating programs and metrics to achieve their strategy. You will analyze consumption/usage patterns of energy, water, waste, and identify opportunities to reduce each; perform lifecycle assessments to minimize environmental impacts; create policies and practices to improve employee recruiting and retention; and develop business case and metrics supporting a company’s sustainability plan. Using frameworks such as UN Sustainable Development Goals and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to guide plan development, you will ensure sustainability is built into a company’s management system and prepare CSR report to demonstrate a company’s commitment to sustainability.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an Architect, Engineer, or related design professional with minimum of five to seven years related experience
  • Hold a LEED AP with specialty (or the ability to obtain within six months)
  • Have significant LEED project experience
  • Possess detailed technical understanding on multiple of the following subjects: HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, construction methods, materials specification, landscape design and management, master planning, land use, zoning, urban development, life-cycle assessment, sustainability reporting
  • Have experience in Building Commissioning, Energy Audits, or Energy Benchmarking
  • Possess strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate initiative and a positive, can-do attitude

Preference given to candidates holding the credential LEED AP O+M, WELL, and/or LEED Certification Reviewer certificate.

SRI offers a comprehensive benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts for medical/dependent care, retirement plan with company match, generous paid time off, and a business casual environment. With a strong belief in the importance of work/life balance and employee health and wellness, we provide and encourage employee participation in lunch and learns, wellness and physical activity programs, volunteering, and work schedule flexibility. Salary is competitive, depending on education, breadth of experience and communication skills.

All inquiries will be held in confidence. Verification of LEED AP qualifications with the USGBC and background checks are required. EOE. Please send responses to: careers@3Rsustainability.com
